Brands

Brands let you group your products by manufacturer or supplier brand — for example, distinguishing between your house olive oil and a premium branded one, or tracking whether you're using Heinz ketchup vs. a no-name alternative.

Tracking brands gives you an extra layer of visibility into your purchasing and helps you make informed decisions when switching between branded and generic products.

Navigate to your brands at app.digichef.co/brands.

What brands are used for

In DigiChef, a brand can be assigned to one or more products. Once products are linked to a brand, you can:

  • See all products under a brand in one place — useful when a supplier rep changes pricing across their whole catalogue
  • Track how many recipes use that brand's products — understand the impact before you switch suppliers or brands
  • Export a velocity report — see how much of a brand's product you're purchasing over time

TIP

Brands are especially useful for operations that care about consistency — e.g., ensuring all locations use the same brand of cooking oil, or tracking the cost difference between branded and generic products across your recipes.

Creating a brand

  1. Navigate to Brands.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Enter the Brand Name, e.g.: Heinz, Sysco Imperial, or House Brand.
  4. Click Create.

Assigning a brand to a product

Brands are assigned from the product's edit page:

  1. Navigate to Products and open the product.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Select the Brand from the dropdown.
  4. Click Save.

You can also assign a brand when creating a product manually.

Brand detail page

Clicking a brand from the Brands Overview opens its detail page, which shows:

  • Number of products assigned to this brand
  • Number of recipes (plating and prep) that use this brand's products
  • Product list — every product in your account linked to this brand, with current costs

This gives you a fast way to assess the full scope of a brand in your operation before making a change.

Velocity export

The velocity export shows how much of a brand's products you've purchased over a selected time period — useful for supplier negotiations or reviewing spend by brand.

  1. Open the brand's detail page.
  2. Click Options > Velocity Report.
  3. The report will download to your device.
